I think the quote is that it's "Weather Report run through the blender." Which doesn't sound to me like he doesn't like it; more like teasing Bob about rehashing his ideas (and maybe not improving them). I guess I can kinda sorta hear that, but I've wondered what exactly he was thinking of ... Can't remember where I read that, though. It just stuck with me.

I really love the whole suite. Not that I'd ever turn down a good LiG, but the whole thing together is just chill-inducing.

And I know I've heard them playing around with what became the opening melody to WRS quite early ... I swear I'm thinking of 69 sometime ... can anyone else pinpoint what I might be thinking of?

4/5/69 - at the end of Doin' That Rag bobby teases the WRS prelude.

Hmmm, I don't hear that on my copy. You could be right, but since I don't pick it out, I must be thinking of somewhere else. (I wouldn't be surprised if he messed around with it a fair amount before putting it into an actual "composition.")

I'm thinking it might be somewhere in the jamming during the misdated 6/19/68, which is really ... what? 2/19/69?

I'm actually not very familiar with the 6/19/68 (2/19/69) show believe it or not. I think I'm going to queue that one up tonight, what the hell am I waiting for?!

The WRS prelude on 4/5/69 is a little hard to pick out...listen carefully with headphones. I hear it staring at 7:45 into Rag during the tuning after the song, and immediately before Cryptical envelopment (only lasts about 2-3 seconds). But it could (?) be different on your copy depending on how it's tracked. I believe I have the Miller version.

don't think I've ever heard a WRS tease from 69. I know 8/6/71 has a tease in the second other one (a tease if you could call it that, as the song was still developing at that point)

Would like to hear that 69 tease
